My Favourite Moments of 2024 (Part 1)

I often feel a sense of great fulfillment and joy when supporting my clients.

Not often do I get to write about them, reflect on why I feel this way, who created this opportunity, and how this allows me to easily remember why I love what I do.

So, I’m changing that.

I’ve decided to do a rundown of my top 3 moments from 2024. Here. We. Go!

  1. A chef’s inspiring story from ‘pai kia’ to award-winning Executive Chef

Kong Kok Kiang, or KK, spoke from the heart from the very first time we chatted and he never changed even when going live on air for CNA938 or speaking with Stephanie Yeo from The Straits Times. KK is as genuine as you can get, but he’s also as inspiring as he is genuine.

While The Straits Times tells his incredible journey from school dropout to award-winning chef and author, my own conversations with him offered glimpses of the person behind the story.

Here are just a few things that left an impression on me:

  • He’s a dog lover, and unfortunately lost his beloved companion earlier this year – a Jack Russell named McQueen. He even shaved his head to pay tribute to his furry best friend, whom he still misses till this day. As a fellow dog lover who has lost three of my beloved companions, I felt his pain very much.

  • The people around him love him. During our interview at At-Sunrice, his classmates in the neighbouring classroom watched through the glass windows with big smiles on their faces. During the break, they flocked into the room to chat with him. There was such an air of warmth, support and admiration for this humble chef.

  • His determination to take fate into his own hands is like no other. How he overcame early academic failure is detailed in the Straits Times interview, but this drive extends to other areas of his life too. He was on the verge of becoming diabetic and overweight due to long hours at work and constantly drinking energy drinks to keep himself going. So, he committed himself to exercise, running every day and even signing up for competitive runs to push himself. He lost the weight and maintains a healthy weight today, even with his busy schedule of work, study and family commitments.

When an interviewer quipped “you are so direct and honest”, he laughed and said “there is nothing to hide, this is who I am”.

It was a privilege to meet KK and help tell his story.

  1. Bravely venturing into a foreign land as the only woman in the room bringing a fresh new take on cybersecurity

A little trepidation and uncertainty when venturing into unfamiliar territory is normal—but that’s not how Flexxon’s CEO, Camellia Chan, approaches new ground. Not ever.

In November, Flexxon made a bold debut in Romania—and what an impression it left!

While preparing for the trip, we immersed ourselves in everything we could learn about the country. But nothing could have prepared the team for Romania’s rich culture and cuisine, stunning architecture, and storied history. Photos and videos shared with me captured this perfectly, where even the conference room boasted high ceilings and huge domed windows. It felt almost like I was right there with them.

The team couldn’t stop raving about the breathtaking architecture, the warmth and hospitality of the people, and how beautiful and welcoming Romania was in every way.

Against this backdrop, Flexxon shone. They:

  • Successfully established a new partnership,

  • Presented confidently to high-level officials and industry leaders,

  • Spoke on a panel alongside industry experts (as the only woman and only hardware security company), and

  • Tackled critical questions during the press conference.

The result? A hugely successful debut—significant media coverage, meaningful conversations, strengthening relationships with a truly supportive partner that believes in Flexxon’s work, and a spotlight on how Flexxon’s X-PHY solutions could make an impact in the market.

It was a testament to teamwork, preparation, and absolute faith in Flexxon’s mission—proving that even in unfamiliar places, bold moves - and strong women - bring bold results.

  1. A celebration 10 years in the making

TOP International's 10th Anniversary Gala Dinner celebration

This year marked TOP International Holding’s 10th anniversary - what a year to start working with them! From the get-go, I had the privilege of weaving together the threads of this 10-year milestone into a beautiful, year-long tapestry.

It all began with conceptualising the theme, “Every Piece Matters” - a sentiment that captured not just TOP’s decade of success, but the collective effort, people, and vision that made it possible. As a lover of puns, I was thrilled by the double entendre of the word “matter”. A story for another day, perhaps.

Looking back, much feels like a blur. But I can recall various pieces that I am proud to have contributed to, such as:

  • Collaborating with the designer to create a special 10th anniversary logo,

  • Organizing an internal reveal event where CEO Victor Tan shared the story behind the logo and his vision for the future. The first instance where I got to witness the interaction between TOP’s employees. (Spoiler: Full of uproarious laughter)

  • Ideating and script writing for two videos that celebrated TOP’s work, its people, and its values (Not a spoiler: The video team was amazing, the original score just beautiful, and I absolutely love the videos)

  • Ultimately culminating in the grand gala dinner on 11 November 2024, where nearly 300 guests from around the world came together to celebrate this milestone

  • Bonus point: Gaining insight into a new industry - mining - , and working alongside amazing people I didn’t even know a year ago—proof that every new opportunity brings growth and friendships.

And because every piece truly does matter—even me—I had to dust off my gown and step into heels for the first time since my wedding in 2019. (Who knew a PR role came with wardrobe challenges?).

But seeing everything come together, from the theme to the final toast at the gala dinner, was worth every step, wobble, and detail. It was an incredible celebration of vision, people, and perseverance, and I’m so proud to have played a part in marking this special moment.

On a side note, I can’t remember the last time I spoke, digested, or read so much Mandarin. In fact, I reconnected with my primary school Chinese tutor recently, and she didn’t sound all too disappointed in me. Progress, perhaps?

This is Part 1—there’s more I want to capture in this space, so stay tuned for Part 2!
